Children’s mental health

I often look at my children and think that they have such a peaceful life, no stress, no worries and no reason not to sleep at night (apart from the monsters hiding in the wardrobe).

I often look at my children and think that they have such a peaceful life, no stress, no worries and no reason not to sleep at night (apart from the monsters hiding in the wardrobe). I look back at my own childhood and looking back there probably were times when I needed to be able to speak to someone from outside of my family whether that were because my parents were splitting up or because I was being bullied. (I was bullied in primary school by some really nasty older horrible girls all because my mum worked in the school).

These days our children are encouraged to talk, to open up more and express how they are feeling about why they are angry, or upset or quiet in hope that we as adults can recognise any mental health problems at an earlier stage in life.

As someone who spends time with a child, a teacher, a youth club worker or a community football coach – would you know how to react if a child told you that they were suffering from anxiety or would you be able to spot the signs of a child harming themselves because they are struggling with the next set of exams coming up?

As a parent, would you feel good knowing that there was someone outside of your family circle like a dance teacher or scout club leader that your child could feel comfortable talking to about how they were feeling and even more so knowing that they were trained to help recognise signs and symptoms of potential mental health illnesses?

We are setting up a project that will help us train people in the North West that may have every day contact with your children. We are attempting to raise money to fund the courses to teach Youth Mental Health First Aid to these important people that spend time with your children.

I would love it if you could take just 5 minutes out of your day to take a look at our project page and maybe donate some pennies if you have some to spare. For some donations, we even have some rewards for you to choose from in return. You can choose a bottle of Gin from from Stockport Gin for just £25 in return for a pledge (although we do only have one of these left now!) …. or two of our gorgeous soft toy giraffes for just £23 (that’s a fabulous saving)! Or grab yourself a discounted mental health first aid course place or a paediatric first aid course place to use on any course in 2020! Take a look here to see what is available .

Or you can just purely leave us a donation on our Crowd Funder Page, we really do appreciate every penny.

The more we can raise externally means the more chance that Aviva employees will see our page when the get the chance to donate a voucher they Aviva are giving them to donate to a project!
